Hi, my name is Wecawaehsak Nepowet, but everyone calls me Lee. I am in my final semester in the Tribal Legal Studies and L.S./Social Sciences. I will be returning in fall to finish the Public Administration Associate's, then start the Bachelorette next Spring. I am taking this class to expand my knowledge in the arts and to fill the minimum credit requirement for financial aid. I'm a 32 year old father of 2 (Piper 7, Kesekaesek 4) and husband of 8 years. Along with full time school I have a full time job with Menominee County. My moto in life is that, there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance, but never be afraid to be confident in order to avoid being arrogant.
Lee's 10 Artists
1. Janice Albro is an enrolled member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. She was born at Claremore, OK Indian Hospital and is the daughter of Bessie Bigtalk Trowbridge, a full blood Dakota Indian from the Lake Traverse Reservation of Sisseton, SD. She began drawing and painting as a child, but only recently began to pursue her love of art full time. She has shown her work throughout the Midwest winning numerous prestigious awards. Now an accomplished artist, Janice Albro's paintings and sculptures are in many private collections and museums.
2. Ralph Aragon is from San Felipe Pueblo and married into the Pueblo of Zia where he has lived for the last 20 years. As long as he can rememer, Ralph has had the need to "do something different" with his art.
3. John Balloue was born in 1948 in Richmond, California, the son of an English mother and Cherokee father. John formalized his art training as a student on the G.I. bill. He attended Ohlone College in Fremont, CA, Chabot College in Hayward, CA, graduating in 1975 with a B.A. in Art for California State University Hayward.
4. Parris K. Butler ,(Mojave/Cherokee), was born in 1955 in Washington , D.C. where his parents encouraged his appreciation and exploration of Art from an early age. In 1984 and 85 he received AFA degrees in 2- Dimensional Arts and Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe , N.M.
5. Mac Coyote comes from the southwest corner of Colorado, a place called Towaoc, Colorado a land dotted with the remants of the Anasazi ruins and a Mountain that resembles an Indian laying down looking up to the heavens. The mountain is called Ute Mountain Ute.
6. Jesse T. Hummingbird, 3/4 Cherokee and a tribal member of the Cherokee Nation, was born in 1952 in Tahlequah, OK. He attended junior and senior high schools in Nashville, TN, and went on to study art at Watkins Institute, the University of Tennessee, and classes at The American Academy of Art in Chicago.
7. Michael Kabotie (Lomawywesa) is a renowned Hopi Painter / Jeweler / Poet. His vibrant art is deeply rooted in the Hopi culture and tradition, yet he has developed a style and a flair that is uniquely his own. He incorporates traditional Hopi images, songs, and stories into distinctive artworks. In Michael's own words, the process of developing his art is his way of "painting the songs".
8. Valerie Namoki - As a girl, Valerie learned the art of making the polychrome style of traditional pottery in the Hopi community of Polocca alongside her grandmother Carol Namoki. With her knowledge of traditional pottery making techniques, and the influence of her father Virgil and her uncles who were all kachina carvers, Valerie branched off into creating pottery Kachinas when she was in her 20s.
9. Ann Pisano is a Crow Painter who does beautiful renditions of Crow life. Her works are predominantly acrylic on canvas. Several of Ann's works were featured at our Native Art Network show in Vicenza, Italy in 1999. The Native Art Network logo is a crow design inspired by Ann's art (with her permission of course).

5. Grill Making, bizzarre form of art probably not as common as it was at the turn of the century, but has to with making dental art pieces for your mouth.
